Come to the Party: The Finale to UAlbany’s 175th

ALBANY (Nov. 26, 2019) — The year is winding down, and so is UAlbany’s celebration of its 175th year. The year’s events included a kick-off celebration in January, a throw-back basketball game with players in replica 1950s uniforms, and a year-long visit from our original mascot, Pedwin the Penguin. Our 175th traveling exhibit – stand-up posters of stand-out UAlbany students and alumni – had a special exhibit downtown at the Legislative Office Building, as well as appearances on all three campuses.

May 7, the date in 1844 that the State Legislature approved UAlbany’s precursor – the NYS Normal School – included speeches and a birthday cake, a proclamation from Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan and the unveiling of the 1964 time capsule that was encased in a cornerstone of Dutch Quad, the University’s first residence hall.

On Monday, items for a new time capsule will be revealed, including those that represent the University’s nine schools and colleges.

Join President Rodríguez, along with faculty, staff, students and the University’s senior leadership, at 2 p.m. Monday in the Great Hall of the Campus Center for the festive finale to our anniversary year.

In addition to refreshments and remarks, the event will also feature the unveiling of the winning design for UAlbany’s holiday card. The top three student winners of the Holiday Card Design Contest will be on hand to showcase their designs.
