Celebrating Diversity and Beauty

ALBANY, N.Y. (Aug. 27, 2019) — With major sponsorship from UAlbany, the Albany Latin Fest presented a full day of family-oriented enjoyment last Saturday in Washington Park. Performances highlighted the diversity of Hispanic musical genres, a wide array of food, arts and crafts and children's amusements lent to a festive atmosphere, and booths devoted to community, government and business provided avenues for helpful information and civic participation.

President Havidan Rodríguez, State Representative Patricia Fahy and Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan were among the dignitaries taking part in the fun and acknowledging the importance of the event to the festival crowds.

Organized by the Albany Latin Festival Association (ALFA), the Latin Fest celebrates the beauty and diversity of the Hispanic cultural heritage and acknowledges the contributions made by Hispanic Americans on local, state, national and international levels. Along with providing commercial and non-profit businesses and organizations with access to the local Hispanic population, it has engaged in coalition building efforts to address recent disaster relief efforts.

All the proceeds from this year’s Fest are being directed to humanitarian aid in Puerto Rico, where many residents are still suffering from the effects of Hurricane Maria.
