Broadcast News Icon

Dan Rather is a celebrated member of the American media. He is the former anchor and managing editor for the “CBS Evening News” and worked as a part of the CBS news team for 44 years until 2006. He was also well recognized as a correspondent for the investigative reporting show, “60 Minutes.”

A Texas native, Rather started his career as a reporter for the Associated Press. He got his first experience in broadcast journalism as a reporter for the local ABC affiliate in Houston and later took a job as news director for the city's CBS affiliate.

As a national CBS news correspondent, Rather was stationed in Dallas and first to report on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. His reporting during this national incident was a major factor in his promotion to White House correspondent for the network. He was on hand to cover the Watergate scandal in the early 70s. From 1981-2005, he served as the lead anchor on the “CBS Evening News.” He has received numerous Peabody Awards for his work in the journalism field.
