2019 Chancellor Winner: Subha Tasnim

Subha Tasnim is a double major in criminal justice and emergency preparedness, homeland security and cybersecurity, with a concentration in homeland security. Along with her majors, she minors in political science and sociology.

From her first day at UAlbany, Tasnim knew that she wanted to pursue a career in advocacy. Since freshman year, she has been a senator for the Student Association, and in her junior year became senate vice chair, the first female to hold this position. This year serves as chair of the Board of Finance.

Tansim is a Purple & Gold student ambassador and a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International. She was an ambassador for Elect Her, advocating for women in government. She advocates for UAlbany on a statewide level as a SUNY assembly delegate and is a student liaison for the Student Organization Resource Center.

This semester Tasnim has been an intern for the office of U.S. Sen. Kristin Gillibrand.
Tasnim, who is from Astoria, Queens, says she learned to step out of her comfort zone to take advantage of myriad opportunities at UAlbany.

“I learned about the value of advocacy and how rewarding it is to be able to give back to a community that has provided me with so much growth,” she said. “My experience at UAlbany has helped me cultivate a valuable network of amazing individuals who have pushed me to strive for excellence every single day.”

Currently in the process of committing to a law school, Tasnim plans to begin in the Fall semester. Ultimately she plans to use her law degree in a position in chinch she can work to break down barriers that exist for disadvantaged communities.
