NCAA Tourney #2 Seed Great Danes Host Richmond Saturday

ALBANY, N.Y. – One of the best seasons in UAlbany men’s lacrosse history has culminated in the team’s highest tournament placement ever. UAlbany has drawn the #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will host the University of Richmond in the first round at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium this Saturday, May 12, at 5 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now through the UAlbany Athletics Tickets website.

This game features a pair of conference tournament champions, with UAlbany being the America East champion and Richmond serving as the Southern Conference champion. Each earned a league automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament.

The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU and online on WatchESPN.

Playing in its sixth straight NCAA tourney, UAlbany has earned its highest-ever seed after being ranked #5 in 2007. The Great Danes are seeded for the second straight year, being the #8 seed in 2017. 2018 will be the third time that UAlbany serves as a host for the First Round.

Great Danes lacrosse leads all of the 17 tournament entries with 14 victories. It has a 5-1 record against fellow tournament teams, this year defeating #1-ranked Maryland (by an 11-10 score), #8 Syracuse (15-2), Cornell (11-9), UMass (19-8) and Canisius (19-11), while losing on April 22 to #3 Yale 14-6 in New Haven.

UAlbany and Richmond have never met in a regular season game.

The team gathered for the selection show at Damien’s in the Campus Center in front of fans and supporters.
