INAUGURATION VIDEO RECAP

ALBANY, N.Y. (April 17, 2018) – The UAlbany community joined together last week for a celebration of our 20th President, Havidán Rodríguez.

Rodríguez was inaugurated on Friday afternoon in front of a packed house at the University’s Performing Arts Center. His investiture ceremony began with a procession of faculty and delegates in full regalia, followed by remarks from UAlbany Provost James Stellar; University Senate Chair Karen Reinhold; Alumni Association President Brian Fessler; Student Association President Jerlisa “Juju” Fontaine; Graduate Student Association President Dylan Card; former colleague at UTRGV and close friend Ala Qubbaj; SUNY Chairman H. Carl McCall and SUNY Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson.

President Rodríguez then spoke to the crowd about his priorities for the University.

“Presidential transitions present a tremendous opportunity for institutions to re-engage, reimagine and rededicate themselves,” Rodríguez said. “I can tell you today that this University has embraced this opportunity with open arms, hearts and minds, and we are ready to get to work and to generate transformational change.”

The day began less formally, with a morning coffee hour in the Campus Center food court area. The campus community was welcome to share refreshments with the president and executive committee, and University faculty, staff and students.

It ended with a reception with light refreshments in the Lecture Center concourse.

Rodríguez came to UAlbany with more than 25 years of experience in higher education leadership. Since becoming president last September, some of his key initiatives have included an extensive listening and learning tour with UAlbany’s schools, colleges and administrative units, faculty and students; and the launch of a new five-year strategic plan for the University.
