YouTuber Tyler Oakley to Speak on UAlbany Campus, March 27

Tyler Oakley will headline the University’s Speaker Series on March 27.

ALBANY, N.Y. (March 20, 2018) – YouTube star and LGBTQ+ activist Tyler Oakley will headline the latest installment of the University at Albany’s Speaker Series on Tuesday, March 27.

The event is free and open to the UAlbany campus community, alumni and the general public. It is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in SEFCU Arena.

Doors will be open at 6:30 p.m. Those interested in attending must register online. Printed confirmations are required for admittance and seating is first-come, first-serve.

With more than 7.5 million subscribers on YouTube and 23 million across his social media platforms, Oakley has been established as one of the nation’s most influential LGBTQ+ vloggers.

Among his many accomplishments, Oakley has been a consultant for President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama on using digital platforms to connect with youth; raised more than $1 million for The Trevor Project; and has been nominated – and won – numerous awards.

He was also named one of Time Magazine’s “30 Most Influential People on the Internet,” included in The Hollywood Reporter’s “Top 25 Digital Stars” two years in a row and is on the 2017 Forbes “30 Under 30” list.

Since its inception in 2008, the University’s Speaker Series has strived to bring world leaders and thinkers to campus. It has featured nationally-recognized icons including President Bill Clinton (Spring 2011), Earvin 'Magic' Johnson (2011), Bill Nye (Spring 2015), Justice Sonia Sotomayor (Spring 2017) and most recently Octavia Spencer (Fall 2017).
