ALBANY, N.Y. (Dec. 1, 2017) – The fourth episode of Ellen DeGeneres’ “Summit” docuseries premiered this week with coverage of UAlbany’s Opening Convocation and includes a personal introduction by President Havidán Rodríguez.

The series is following six college freshmen – including UAlbany students Melick Lubin, Nyasha Biggs, Sharinel Nunez – as they leave their hometown behind to pursue a college education. In the week’s episode, President Rodríguez met Melick, Nyasha and Sharinel at Tom and Mary Casey Stadium and welcomed them to the UAlbany community.

“These are three great students; they are going to be incredibly successful,” Rodríguez said. “We will support them, we will nurture them, and we will work with them to ensure their success along with the other 17,000-plus Great Danes.”

In conjunction with Walmart, Ellen DeGeneres awarded 41 graduating seniors at Summit Academy Charter School in Brooklyn, including Melick, Nyasha and Sharinel, with a full-ride scholarship to any state school of their choosing. She made the announcement live on her show last February.

The six students featured in Ellen’s docuseries were invited back onto her show earlier this month to talk about their first few months away from home. They were awarded with an additional $10,000 to help offset remaining college expenses.

New “Summit” episodes will be available on EllenTube each Wednesday through Dec. 13.
