Women's basketball hosts the 2017 America East Championship game on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

ALBANY, N.Y. (March 9, 2019) – Two basketball championships, a top 10 showdown in lacrosse and track & field championships highlight an exciting weekend for UAlbany sports fans.

Women’s basketball begins tournament action on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in SEFCU Arena, hosting Maine in the America East Conference title game. Men’s basketball travels to Burlington on Saturday to battle Vermont in the America East Conference title game. Tip-off is at 11 a.m. in Patrick Gymnasium.

Men’s lacrosse, ranked ninth in the nation, hosts No. 2 Maryland at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on Saturday at 3 p.m. 

Members of the University's Track & Field program, whose team's won America East Conference championships last month, will also be competing in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at College Station in Texas this weekend. 

“We are very fortunate to have multiple teams playing and generating national exposure for the University this weekend,” said Mark Benson, UAlbany’s athletic director. “These opportunities help from a recruiting perspective and instill a sense of pride among students, alumni and Great Danes fans across the country.”

Women’s Basketball:

The UAlbany women’s basketball team advanced to a sixth-straight title game after defeating Hartford, 67-65, on Sunday afternoon in the America East semifinal round.

The Great Danes are led by seniors Imani Tate and Bailey Hixson, along with redshirt junior Jessica Féquière. Against Hartford, Hixson had a career-high 22 points, including six three pointers. Tate was named to the America East All-Conference First Team this season. Féquière was named to the All-Conference Second Team.

This will be second consecutive year UAlbany hosts Maine in the America East title game. The conference tournament champion earns an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Men's basketball will travel to Vermont on Saturday for the 2017 America East Championship game. 

Men’s Basketball:

The UAlbany men’s basketball team upset Stony Brook, 63-56, in the America East semifinal round on Monday night. With the victory, the Great Danes advanced to a fourth conference championship in five seasons.

UAlbany is led by three sophomores: David Nichols, Joe Cremo and Devonte Campbell. Nichols, named to the America East All-Conference First Team this season, led the team in scoring against Stony Brook on Monday with 19 points. He also tied a program record with 40 points against Hartford in the quarterfinal round. Cremo was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team this season. Campbell was named to the All-Conference defensive team.

UAlbany is undefeated against Vermont in America East title games. The conference tournament champion earns an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Saturday’s game will be televised on ESPN2. Limited tickets are available here. UAlbany’s Alumni Association is offering a fan bus to the game.

Men’s Lacrosse:

The UAlbany men’s lacrosse team is currently ranked No. 9 in the USILA Coaches Poll. The ranking is the second-highest in New York State and highest in the America East Conference.

The Great Danes are led by junior Connor Fields and redshirt junior JD Colarusso. Fields has already been named the America East Offensive Player of the Week twice this season. Colarusso, the team’s goalie, was named defensive player of the week in late February.

UAlbany is 3-1, with victories over Cornell, UMass and Drexel. The team’s only loss was a thriller against No. 6 Syracuse. The Great Danes were defeated 10-9 in the final seconds.

Track & Field:

It was another milestone season for the UAlbany men's and women's track & field teams. Both won the America East championships Feb. 24-25, held in Boston, for the fifth straight season (the men made it 12 straight). The team's also won their respective titles at the IC4A/ECAC Championships last weekend. This was a first-ever double win for both programs in these prestigious multi-team competitions.

On Monday, head coach Roberto Vives was named Northeast Region Men’s Coach of the Year for the Northeast region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
