ALBANY, N.Y. (October 12, 2016) — Scheduling and registering for classes can be stressful for students. UAlbany is working to improve the experience with the release of Schedule Planner, a web-based course planner.

Using this tool, students can input breaks, including extra-curricular activities, work commitments and preferences, and see their full range of schedule options. Students can access Schedule Planner from the Academics tab in MyUAlbany, in the Enrollment Tools navigation menu.

The release of Schedule Planner is a partnership between the Office of the Registrar, the Advisement Services Center and Information Technology Services, and represents a significant improvement to the student registration experience.

“We identified Schedule Planner in 2012 and immediately knew it would provide a significant benefit to the University community,” Registrar Karen Chico Hurst said. “Most of all, we were confident students and advisors would love it. The product has evolved tremendously since we identified it as a solution for the campus, and we look forward to the new features and functionality it has to offer. We hope to significantly improve the overall student experience, while simultaneously improving the ability of the University to respond quickly to course demands and other areas of student need.”

“This technology is light years ahead of the pen and paper model we currently have in place,” said Joanne Malatesta, assistant vice provost for Undergraduate Education and director of the Advisement Services Center. “The product links to our retention and graduation initiatives by allowing students to access a comprehensive set of course options to develop schedules that best meet their individual interest and needs. This has the potential to increase enrolled credit hours and reduce the time to degree completion.”

The launch of Schedule Planner is set to coincide with the opening of registration for the Winter 2016-2017 and Spring 2017 terms, which begins on October 19. During the registration period, students can visit with experts at the Schedule Planner table in the Lecture Center area or receive walk-in assistance in the Advisement Services Center.
