Men’s lacrosse made history this season, earning the program’s first at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament.

UAlbany earned the program’s first at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament this season, adding to an already impressive resume. The Great Danes have now competed in four consecutive NCAA Tournaments, advancing to the quarterfinals in 2015, with a victory over No. 8 seed Cornell, and in 2014 after defeating No. 3 Loyola.

Finishing with a 12-4 record, UAlbany defeated multiple ranked opponents this season including Yale and Stony Brook. The team was in the top five of coaches and media polls for the first time since 2007.

The Great Danes’ 2016 senior class has completed their career with 53 victories, the winning class in program history. Included are three America East Conference Tournament championships, and four perfect America East regular season titles.

“I am extremely proud of the effort that my team put in from September until now,” said UAlbany head coach Scott Marr. “These seniors took over a team that had two or three of the best players in the game the previous four years, playing in their shadow, and got us back to this position. We had an opportunity to play for a national championship, and they helped us get the first at-large berth in program history.”

Syracuse will take on No. 1 seed Maryland in the NCAA quarterfinal round in Providence, R.I. on Saturday, May 21.
