Student-athletes, athletic staff and coaches all got into the enjoyment of giving the kids a glimpse of the college experience at the 10th Annual Commitment to Education Day. To top off a morning and afternoon that featured a tour of athletic facilities, and games of tossing, kicking and racing, the contingent of kids settled in at SEFCU Arena to cheer on the Great Danes Women's Basketball Team, as they convincingly bested New Hampshire, 85-48. Attendance was a season't best 3,016.

“It is awesome to have Commitment to Education Day, it is a loud crowd with a lot of people in the gym, we love playing at 12 (p.m.) and it is great for the community here,” said UAlbany head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson.

Positive reaction from the children included that of Isabela Parker, a 5th grader at Pine Bush Elementary School in Guilderland. “It was awesome to meet all of the UAlbany athletes and learn about the importance of being a good student and living a healthy lifestyle," said Isabela. “My classmates and I got to see athletes from many of the 19 teams in person before watching a great women’s basketball game!”

“We couldn’t be happier for the turnout and thank all the schools for attending,” said Nate Mason, assistant athletic director for ticket sales & strategy. “A lot of preparation goes into this event, and we could not do it without the support of our area schools.”
