ALBANY, N.Y. (January 27, 2016) – Construction is expected to continue throughout the winter on the West addition to the Campus Center, and the work is about two-thirds complete, according to Project Manager for Facilities Management Brad Bunzey.

“The project schedule has slipped slightly but the goal is to recover any lost time and maintain the planned occupancy date. We really want to have the spaces occupied for the start of the spring 2017 semester,” said Bunzey.

When completed, the 55,000-square-foot West addition will house a multi-use auditorium, multi-use rehearsal room, student association office suites, a food service venue, meditation room, student group resource spaces and miscellaneous lounges and meeting rooms. The project involves not only the new space, but also renovation to more than 46,000-square-feet of the existing Campus Center, causing some routing and entrance disruptions. Accordingly, until December 2016, there is no longer a direct path from 518 Market to the State Employees Federal Credit Union (SEFCU) and ATMs, so give yourself a few more minutes to walk there. You can access SEFCU by walking inside the Campus Center, past the Barnes and Noble Bookstore and the Science Library, and around the corner back to the SEFCU.

The renovations are causing some routing changes.

The 518 Market can be reached by taking the stairway outdoors between the Campus Center and Education Building, or by going inside the Campus Center main entrance, and taking a right down the stairway to the lower level.

The East addition was opened in September and houses five food venues on the ground floor and a full catering kitchen at the sub-basement level. The kitchen features a loading dock for receiving food supplies and catering distribution. The loading dock is also the primary receiving location for the Campus Center Bookstore.

The East addition is also home to over 2,000-square-feet of green roof. The green roof system is used to capture rain water, reduce run-off, and help reduce summertime cooling needs. The use of a green roof system reduces the amount of storm water introduced to the existing campus storm water system. Exterior items at the East addition which also help to reduce storm water burden include: porous precast concrete sidewalk panels, and porous asphalt at the diagonal sidewalks and parking spaces.
