UAlbany 2014 Homecoming Weekend to Feature Lunch with Hollywood Producer, an Evening with a Famous Comedian and an Energetic Pre-Game Tailgate

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 6, 2014) – The University at Albany will welcome the local and UAlbany communities to campus for its annual Homecoming Family and Reunion Weekend, Oct. 10-12. Featuring a variety of activities for all ages, homecoming celebrates the University and its network of 165,000 alumni through knowledge, culture, sports and entertainment.

Reaching Higher, Achieving More Luncheon

UAlbany’s Reaching Higher, Achieving More luncheon kicks off festivities at noon on Friday. The annual luncheon in the Campus Center Ballroom showcases Hollywood writer and producer Marc Guggenheim ’92, as its featured speaker. A Long Island native, Guggenheim is known for his large body of work including Eli Stone, Law & Order, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Green Lantern, Call of Duty 3, and CW’s Arrow. Following the luncheon, Guggenheim will be signing his new novel, Overwatch. This is a free event and open to the public with pre-registration. 

Since its inception in 2006, the Reaching Higher, Achieving More alumni campaign has featured a wide array of UAlbany graduates - entrepreneurs, educators, lawyers, corporate leaders, entertainers, doctors, social workers, authors, and policymakers. The event was designed to give UAlbany students a window into the world of successful alumni, inspiring them to reach further and begin to lay the groundwork to carve out their own paths to success.

The Great Dane Pre-Game

The Great Dane Pre-Game highlights Saturday’s events, bringing an anticipated 2,000 fans to campus. Homecoming-goers are invited to tailgate behind Bob Ford Field before UAlbany Football (4-1) takes on the University of Richmond (3-2) at 3:30 p.m. The $20 event package includes a lunch buffet, t-shirt and game ticket. A bus ticket from New York City to Albany is available for an additional $5. Tailgating begins at 1 p.m.

The second annual Great Dane Pre-Game features live music by the Bad Chaperones, a regional rock band. The Bad Chaperones cover a wide assortment of artists including Bruce Springsteen, the Beastie Boys and Vanilla Ice. Tailgate activities also include a fan photo booth and inflatable bounce houses.

The UAlbany Programming Board will present a stand-up comedy routine by Dave Coulier, best known for portraying Joey on the ABC sitcom “Full House."

After the game, at 8 p.m. Saturday, the UAlbany Programming Board will present a stand-up comedy routine by Dave Coulier in the Campus Center Ballroom. Best known for portraying Joey on the ABC sitcom “Full House,” Coulier has developed a successful career as a comedian, impressionist, television and voice actor, and T.V. host. UAlbany students can pick up a maximum of four free tickets in the Campus Center lobby from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6 and Tuesday, Oct. 7. UAlbany faculty, staff, alumni, family and friends are welcome to attend. If remaining, tickets will be available to the general public at the door.

Additional Events

Additional events include a campus bus and walking tour, alumni wine-tasting at the newly renovated main fountain, Rockefeller College alumni panel discussion on the Russia-Ukraine crisis, various student performances and class reunions, tours of UAlbany’s RNA Institute and Art Museum and a special honoring of more than 4,000 alumni, faculty and staff who have served in the U.S. Military.
