UAlbany’s “World Within Reach” Speaker Series Features Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Russell Simmons, Oct. 13

ALBANY, NY (October 4, 2012) — Russell Simmons, hip hop mogul and co-founder of Def Jam Records headlines the World Within Reach Speaker Series on Saturday, October 13, at 7 p.m. in the University at Albany’s SEFCU Arena.

An entrepreneur and philanthropist, Simmons is the featured speaker for the 6th installment of the Student Association speaker series. The event caps off UAlbany’s Fallbany Weekend.

Four years ago, UAlbany’s Student Association conceived and organized the World Within Reach Speaker Series, designed to bring world leaders and thinkers to campus. To date, it has featured philanthropist and AIDS spokesman, Earvin “Magic” Johnson Jr.; former President, Bill Clinton; former U.S. Secretary of State, Colin Powell; Barbara Walters; and Howard Dean and Karl Rove.

Simmons, 54, co-founded Def Jam Records with Rick Rubin in 1984. Since then, Simmons has developed Rush Communications and Phat Farm, as well as Def Comedy Jam, for which he earned a Peabody and Tony Award. He is also known for his activism, recently assisting U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Oh.) in his re-election campaign.
