The World of Environmental Sustainability

News from The World of Sustainability
Freshmen in The World of Sustainability have had a major impact on our campus already, working with University at Albany Dining Services to ensure local foods are labeled, and that students, faculty and staff can make informed choices about what they consume. Next on their agenda? The ambitious "50 by '15" campaign, which aims to increase the amount of food coming from local sources from 20% to 50% by 2015.

As a member of the World of Sustainability Living-Learning Community, you will:

• Live in a residence hall with other students interested in the environment and sustainability
• Work with UAlbany’s Director of Sustainability to develop and implement student-based sustainability initiatives for the UAlbany campus 
• Attend guest lectures and meet leaders and students from other schools making a difference in such areas as biodiversity conservation, natural resources management, and sustainable agriculture 
• Learn about the impact of food production on the environment
• Explore majors and other pathways to effect sustainability efforts beyond the university
• Develop essential leadership skills through active community engagemen
• Meet members of University at Albany Sustainability Council, Net Impact, Campus Greens, NYPIRG, UAlbany Students for Sustainability
• Actively participate in L-LC events (guest speaker presentations, workshops, study groups, outings) in both the fall and spring semester
• Participate in at least one community service project each semester
• Together with the members of your L-LC, you will take classes esigned to increase your knowledge of sustainability, biodiversity, climate change, urban sprawl, and local/organic food supplies
• Form study groups for your L-LC classes
• Have lunch with your professor on a regular basis
