World of Career Discovery

This World is designed to encourage incoming freshmen who have not yet decided on a major to explore the possibilities. Through coursework, guest lectures, networking, and community service, students "try on" a variety of fields, and move toward deciding on a major.

The World of Career Discovery is designed for incoming freshmen who would like to explore different majors, minors, and career options while learning practical internship and job search strategies. By being in this World, students can further explore their interests, skills, and values and learn how to make the most of their college experience. Living and taking classes with others who share your curiosity means you can study together, attend social and co-curricular programming together, and have a supportive network of peers right from the start. Friendships form quickly in L-LCs!

The World of Career Discovery will take some courses together in the fall and spring semesters of freshman year and attend career themed events together.

Fall 2016 L-LC Courses

Spring 2017 L-LC Courses
Your spring L-LC courses, which you will take together as a community, will be finalized mid-fall. Seats will be reserved for you in each designated L-LC course.

Students in the World of Career Discovery will participate in community service, as well as a number of workshops and seminars covering topics such as:
  • Résumés and cover letters
  • Internship and job searches
  • Networking
  • Business Etiquette
  • Social Media in career development
  • Interviewing Business Etiquette

As a member of an L-LC you will have a built-in community of friends and colleagues right from the start!

Friends: Study and socialize with fellow L-LC members. Tackle those first-year courses with your friends by forming study groups where you live!

World Ambassadors: "Learn the ropes" from peers selected from last year’s most engaged L-LC students. If you are an active and engaged member of your L-LC throughout your freshman year, you could become a World Ambassador your Sophomore year!

Community Assistant: Meet weekly with an upper-class/graduate student to plan or attend social, academic, and community service events.

Lead Faculty Member: Get to know a member of the faculty outside of the classroom at weekly lunches in your own dining hall!
World of Career Discovery Lead Faculty: Professor Noah Simon
Weekly L-LC Lunch: Mondays 12:35pm-1:30 pm

Academic Advisor: John Donoghue

World Representatives: Leadership opportunities abound in the L-LCs! Earn a spot as your World Representative by being a leader in your L-LC! World Representatives are elected by the L-LC in October to represent the group at meetings throughout the academic year.

Eligibility: The World of Career Discovery is open to all majors, and is particularly well suited to those who are "undecided."
