Lawrence R. Kelley is the Vice President for Administration and Finance at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California and Chair of the Board of the Cal Poly Corporation. He is responsible for the direction and leadership of all administrative and fiscal support programs at this 20,000-student institution. Prior to his position in California, Mr. Kelley was the Treasurer and Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration at Georgia State University (GSU) in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, he has held several leadership positions in finance and administration at the University of Maine, Kent State University, Miami University (Ohio), The University of Akron and the Akron City School District. Mr. Kelley earned both his Bachelors of Arts in Education and his Master of Science in Technical Education-Educational Finance at The University of Akron. He co-authored the chapter “The University as an Engine for Downtown Renewal in Atlanta” published in The University as Urban Developer (2005).
Dr. Jay Kenton has served as Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration for the seven-campus Oregon University System since April 2005. He oversees the development and administration of the state university system’s budget, including funding needs for operations and capital, and develops policy recommendations to the State Board of Higher Education. His responsibilities include supervision of the Chancellor’s Office, Controller’s Division and Human Resources Office. Dr. Kenton is Professor of Public Administration in the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government in the College of Urban and Public Affairs at Portland State University. His career in higher education includes service as Vice President of Finance and Administration at both the University of Idaho and Portland State University. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, a Master’s degree in Adult and Higher Education from Oregon State University, and a Ph.D. in Public Administration and Policy from Portland State University. Dr. Kenton is a past president of the Western Association of College and University Business Officers.
Robert G. Shibley, AIA, AICP, is a Professor of Architecture and Planning at the University at Buffalo and chaired the Department of Architecture for several years. He is director of the Urban Design Project which he founded in 1990. As UDP director, in partnership with the City of Buffalo and Buffalo Place, Inc., Professor Shibley led the development of the City’s national award-winning The Queen City Hub: A Regional Action Plan for Downtown Buffalo and its related implementation campaign. Working with other organizations, he was a primary author of the City of Buffalo’s first comprehensive plan in over 30 years (adopted Feb. 2006). He serves as a Senior Advisor to the President at UB for Campus Planning and Design. A licensed architect, a certified planner, and a Fellow of the Institute for Urban Design, Professor Shibley is an author of eight books on urban design and planning and over 100 articles. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oregon as well as a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from the Catholic University of America.
Ken C. Stapleton has over 20 years of urban revitalization and economic development experience and currently serves as Senior Economic Development Advisor to the President and Executive Director of the University Park Alliance (UPA) for The University of Akron (UA). He is responsible for the revitalization of the neighborhoods surrounding this urban university and provides strategic guidance for UA’s local and regional economic development initiatives. Under his leadership, UPA has facilitated the investment of more than $300 million of private development projects in University Park. UPA also manages an award-winning community engagement initiative. Previously, Mr. Stapleton served as a Senior Vice President for the Downtown Cleveland Partnership where he initiated and led its efforts to revitalize Euclid Avenue, Cleveland’s Main Street. Mr. Stapleton also worked as a redevelopment expert in several South Florida cities and is also an expert in urban safety programs. He holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Illinois.
Stephen A. Sterrett has been community relations director of Campus Partners for Community Urban Redevelopment since its incorporation as a non-profit organization in January 1995. The Ohio State University created Campus Partners to spearhead improvements in the quality of life in the neighborhoods around its Columbus campus in partnership with the City of Columbus, the people and organizations of the University District, and the University. Mr. Sterrett’s responsibilities include acting as the principal liaison with the city and neighborhood on issues involving public services, code enforcement and public safety. His career includes service as Director of News Services at The Ohio State University and Public Information Director for the Ohio PTA. Mr. Sterrett is a former president of the Dennison Place Association, a neighborhood civic organization in the southwestern portion of the University District, and he has served in leadership positions in many local groups. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1970 from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio with a major in Political Science.
