Smart Scholars Early College High School Program
The Smart Scholars Early College High School Program was developed to increase high school graduation rates and college completion rates for disadvantaged students by allowing high school students to earn college credit. UAlbany is part of one of eleven partnerships funded through the NYS Department of Education by The Gates Foundation, with eight of the eleven partnerships including a SUNY institution.
UAlbany will partner with the City School District of Albany as the lead agency, Hudson Valley Community College, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in creating an Early College High School within Citizens Academy at Albany High. Students will enroll in HVCC after completing preparatory courses in their freshman and sophomore years with an opportunity to earn up to 33 college credits. The program will also support summer programs for middle school students to peak their interest in math and science. Additionally, Albany High faculty teaching the college level courses will be appointed Adjunct Professors at HVCC and receive mentoring from its professors.
