EAP Offers Resources in Uncertain Times 

One way to relieve stress is by taking a walk.

ALBANY, N.Y. (March 31, 2020) – As UAlbany employees face the challenges of disrupted work routines and caring for children while working from home during the COVID-19 crisis, UAlbany’s Employee Assistance Program has stepped up to help with practical tips.

“When you feel yourself feeling highly stressed, do the following: Stop, take a deep breath, and ask yourself these three questions: What CAN I control? What CAN’T I control? What is called for NOW in this moment?” said EAP Coordinator Brenda Seckerson.

Wellness Council of America (WELCOA):   HOW COVID-19 IS IMPACTING THE WORKPLACE - Resources for employees and employers during this time. 

DeStressMonday.org:  DeStress Monday is an initiative of The Monday Campaigns, a nonprofit public health initiative associated with Columbia, Johns Hopkins and Syracuse universities. It helps people put a positive start on each week, while reducing stress throughout the week. DeStress Monday provides helpful, evidence-based stress reduction tools and resources.

Child care and information for families:  Brightside Up, a local child care resource and referral agency, is available to assist you with child care issues that arise due to the COVID 19 crisis. A Family Educator can be reached at (518) 426-7181. 

Parent Teacher Association (PTA): Coronavirus Family Resources

Do you have a friend or loved one who was laid off recently? State Assembly Member Patricia Fahy’s office has produced a Capital Region Resource Guide for Families and Individuals which lists business that are hiring and links to information about filing for unemployment.

Stress Management:  Dr. Andrew Weil’s website has breathing techniques that can help to increase a sense of calm.

Campus Dietician Donna Duffy shared with EAP a website for some recipes for things we typically keep in our pantries.

A tip from the World Health Organization (WHO):  During times of stress, pay attention to your own needs and feelings. Engage in healthy activities that you enjoy and find relaxing. Exercise regularly, keep regular sleep routines and eat healthy food. Keep things in perspective. Public health agencies and experts in all countries are working on the outbreak to ensure the availability of the best care to those affected.
