ALBANY, N.Y. (November 13, 2017) — For the second consecutive season, the Great Dane men’s soccer team moves on to the NCAA Tournament with a nail-biting win in the America East championship on Sunday.

UAlbany, fourth-ranked going into the AE tourney, knocked off second-seed UMass Lowell on the road 1-0 in double overtime on freshman Andreas Assiotis’ first career goal, on an assist from fellow midfielder Carlos Clark. The victory, coming in the 103rd minute of the contest, was the team's 14th of the season, a program record.

It was the second time this season that UAlbany has beaten UMass Lowell, and both times by 1-0 scores, the first when the Great Danes opened their AE season at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on Sept. 30.

Defender Daniel Krutzen was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. He, Clark, goalie Danny Vitiello and forward Nico Solabarrieta were named to the All-Tournament team.

In addition, defender Noah Waxner won the Elite 18 award, presented to the student-athlete on either championship roster with the highest GPA.
