The Translation and Dissemination Institute, created in 2013, helps the field of health services research effectively move its findings into policy and practice, focusing on practical ways to understand, translate and communicate research to meet the needs of various audiences, including improving the quality of information that informs health policy development.

The Institute’s activities are guided by an external Advisory Committee whose members bring expertise from a wide range of disciplines relevant to research translation, dissemination and implementation.

Manganello, the associate dean for research at SPH, is a health communications scholar focused on the health of children, adolescents and young adults. Her research focuses on the effects of mass media on youth and parents, and the dissemination of health information to them through mass media, including social media.

Manganello also has expertise in health literacy and conducts research that focuses on making health information and health research easier to access and understand. She teaches courses related to behavioral health, health communication, media, and health literacy.

Before coming to UAlbany, Manganello was a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Annenberg School for Communication. She received her Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, her master of public health from Boston University and her undergraduate degree from Pomona College.
