University Libraries Help Students ‘Stress Less’ During Finals

ALBANY, N.Y. (May 2, 2016) – With the end of the semester just around the corner, UAlbany students may be feeling the pressure with final exams, projects, papers, and presentations looming overhead. Luckily, the University Libraries has planned a series of fun activities to help alleviate stress.

#StressLessUAlbany will run through Friday, May 13, when this semester’s finals end. It officially kicked off on Thursday, April 21, when local therapy dogs visited the University’s Science Library.

All other activities are still ongoing and include:

Puzzle Corner: (Sunday, May 1 – Thursday, May 12)

  • Jigsaw, Word Search, Sudoku & Board games
  • University Library, 1st Floor, near Circulation Desk
  • 8 p.m. - 6 a.m.

Primal Scream: (Monday, May 2)

  • Let all your stresses out with a 30 second scream
  • University Library, 1st floor northeast (purple chair room),
  • 11:55 p.m.

Cat TV: (Thursday, May 5)

  • Funny videos of cats and other animals to help you relax
  • University Library, 1st floor, near circulation desk
  • 10 p.m. – 12 a.m.

Bubble Blowing: (Monday, May 9)

  • University Library, outside front entrance
  • 1 p.m. -3 p.m.

Coffee Break: (Wednesday, May 4, and Sunday, May 8 – Wednesday, May 11)

  • University Library foyer
  • 10 p.m.

Pajama Party & Movie: (Tuesday, May 10)

  • Bring your stuffed animals, and eat some popcorn
  • University Library
  • 10 p.m. - 6 a.m.
  • Movies to be announced

Cookies and Coloring: (Wednesday, May 11)

  • University Library, 1st Floor, North side
  • 10 p.m.

#StressLessUAlbany is sponsored by University Libraries, University Auxiliary Services (UAS), and Therapy Dogs International. This is the program’s 4th semester on campus.

“I could not be prouder about how much we have been able to grow #StressLessUAlbany since its inception,” said Amanda Lowe, UAlbany lending and access services associate, and #StressLessUAlbany coordinator. “Brightening the atmosphere in the libraries during final exams, a time where tensions are high for students, is a joy for me. I look forward to keeping the momentum going during many future semesters.”

The University Library (on the Uptown Campus) opened at 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 1 and will remain open for 24 hours until closing at 1 a.m. on Saturday. May 7. On Sunday, May 8, the University Library will open at 9 a.m. and remain open for 24 hours until closing at 8 p.m., on Friday, May 13.

Students are also invited to take a study break at the University Art Museum to enjoy free snacks, and view art work from classmates, Tuesday May 3, from 5-8 p.m.
