Women's Basketball Kicks Off Big Purple Growl Festivities Feb. 3rd Against UMBC

Men's Basketball team plays Vermont Feb. 6th for 19th annual event

The UAlbany women's basketball team is undefeated in the America East Conference heading into the Big Purple Growl at SEFCU Arena.

ALBANY, N.Y. (February 2, 2016) -- Seeking its 5th consecutive America East crown, the women's basketball team at UAlbany roars into SEFCU Arena on February 3rd to kick off the 19th Annual Big Purple Growl in a match-up against UMBC. The Great Danes, 17-3 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the conference, will tip-off at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $3.

The game will be televised on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel channel 323 in HD. The game will also be broadcast online for free on AmericaEast.tv.

UAlbany completed a first half America East sweep, the fourth consecutive year it has achieved that, after a 78-41 road victory over Hartford to enter Wednesday at 8-0 in the league and 17-3 overall with a nine-game win streak. UAlbany is receiving votes in each the AP and USA Today Coaches Polls.

UAlbany Drive Out Hunger
Both the men's and women's basketball teams are seeking to Drive Out Hunger while celebrating the 19th Annual Big Purple Growl.

The men's basketball team plays Saturday, February 6th against Vermont. Pregame fun includes live music, activities for kids and great food, plus a commemorative t-shirt. Cost for the game and Ferocious Feast is $25 for adults, $8 for children 6-12 and $5 for children 5 and under. The Feast gets underway at 5 p.m., with tip-off set for 7 p.m. The men's basketball team, seeking its fourth consecutive America East crown, is 17-6 overall and 6-2 in the league heading into a Wednesday night match-up at UMBC.

Both teams are also lining up in an effort to help Drive Out Hunger, a campaign to benefit Capital Region Food Pantries. Fans are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to the Big Purple Growl and Ferocious Feast or make a monetary donation. Just $1 can provide 6.25 pounds of food to a hungry neighbor. Anything you can give will aid in the teams' efforts to Drive Out Hunger.
