Research Interests
I am interested in aspects surrounding the historical transformation of community politics among K'iche' Maya in Western Guatemala. In particular, I examine the influence schools have had in helping shape the dynamics of community relationships with the Guatemalan state as well as the impact of NGOs in processes surrounding the secularization and modernization of the community.Theoretically I am interested the meaning of community within the context of local, national and global connections. I expect to finish a dissertation surrounding these topics by fall of 2013.
