Current research

Juan is currently working toward his PhD in Cultural Anthropology at SUNY Albany. Previously, he conducted ethnographic research in the Yucatan, and he served as the project ethnographer for the Xaltocan Museum Project. Using an ethnographic approach, his thesis work examined sociocultural and sociopolitical factors that advanced and supported collaborative community-based projects in Xaltocan, Mexico. For his dissertation, he plans to expand on his work in Xaltocan, focusing on other topics such as the commodification of intangible heritage, ethnic identity, and tourism.
