In the event that you disagree with a course grade, evaluation, or other program status decision, you should first bring it to the attention of the appropriate (corresponding) faculty member(s). If the problem is not resolved, you can use a variety of informal problem-solving methods, including presenting concerns to your Advisor, the Director of Master’s Training, or the Division Director. These matters are given full consideration, and every effort is made to address the nature of the concern.
If your attempt to resolve the problem is unfeasible or unsuccessful, you should follow the procedures outlined in the current Graduate Bulletin (Academic Standards section) and Community Rights and Responsibilities (Judicial System section). The grievance process begins with your submission of your complaint in writing to the Division of Counseling Psychology Academic Standards Committee (DCP-ASC). The grievance should be filed with the DCP-ACS before the end of the next regular semester (i.e., fall or spring) following the one in which the event leading to the complaint occurred. The complaint letter will be shared with the faculty member(s) (or instructors) to whom you are grieving a grade, evaluation, or other program status decision. The DCP-ASC is charged with reviewing your grievance and presenting it to the full core division faculty for a decision. You will receive a written decision as a result of this review. If you wish to grieve this decision, the next step is to submit the issue to the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology Academic Standards Committee (DECP-ASC). The DECP-ASC will review the issue as described by you and from the division faculty review, and will communicate its decision to you in writing. The next level of review, should you grieve the decision of the DECP-ASC, is the School of Education (SOE) Academic Standing Committee. As detailed in the Bulletin, the university-wide Graduate Academic Council serves as the next level of review, should you wish to grieve the decision of the SOE Academic Standing Committee.
