ALBANY, N.Y. (November 26, 2012) -- On Saturday, December 1, the University at Albany men’s and women’s basketball teams take on the cross-town rival Siena Saints in the annual “Albany Cup.”

This year’s games will be a double-header at the Times Union Center in Albany. Tip-off for the women’s game is 5 p.m., while the men’s game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

UAlbany's Lindsey Lowrie and Mike Black in action

UAlbany's Lindsey Lowrie and Mike Black will lead their respective teams into action against Siena on Saturday, December 1.

The men have played each of the last 11 seasons, while the women have played each other nine times within the last 11 years. Last year, the UAlbany women overwhelmed the lady Saints 72-48, while the Siena men clipped the Danes 64-60.

The UAlbany men are riding high in the early part of the season following a 63-62 upset victory against Pac-10 conference member Washington on November 13, the biggest win in the history of the program. Senior guard Mike Black’s lay-up with three seconds remaining provided the winning margin. The victory gave head coach Will Brown his 150th win at UAlbany.

Since then, the Danes have gone 2-1, including an 83-55 victory over South Carolina State which saw Jacob Iati, Jayson Guerrier, and Black combine to make 14 of 15 team three-pointers, setting a new record since UAlbany moved to Division One in 2001.

Black will lead the Danes into battle with fellow seniors Guerrier, Iati, and Blake Metcalf. The final game for the UAlbany men before the Albany Cup will be against the Wagner Seahawks on Monday, November 26th at 7 p.m. at SEFCU Arena

As for the Lady Danes, head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson will look to make it three straight wins for UAlbany against Siena. Ebone Henry will lead a talented group of seniors including Julie Forster, Lindsey Lowrie, and Keyana Williams.

The defending America East Conference Champions have started the 2012-2013 campaign with a 3-2 record. In the team’s 62-49 victory over Dartmouth, sophomore Megan Craig scored a career-high 27 points. The Lady Danes’ final game before Siena will be on Wednesday, November 28th against the Highlanders of the New Jersey Institute of Technology at 7 p.m. at SEFCU Arena.
