Gala Event! Music Faculty Performs

For the first time in nearly a decade, UAlbany�s department of music will hold a gala event spotlighting the work of nine of its full time and adjunct music faculty.

Performing will be Ann-Marie Barker-Schwartz (violin), Michael Cirigliano II (clarinet), Findlay Cockrell (piano), Robert Gluck (piano), Yvonne Hansbrough (flute), Sten Yngvar Isachsen (guitar), Max Lifchitz (piano), James Morris (trumpet) and Frances Pallozzi Wittmann (mezzo-soprano).

Ann-Marie Barker-Schwartz recently performed with the Musicians of Ma�alwyck and is a former member of the Albany Symphony Orchestra. She currently performs with the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra and the Little Delaware Chamber Players. Michael Cirigliano II is currently second clarinet with the Albany Symphony Orchestra and has also performed with the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra, Albany ProMusica and the Irish Tenors Christmas 2001 tour. Findlay Cockrell solos frequently at the University and with orchestras throughout the U.S., including the San Francisco Symphony and the Albany Symphony Orchestra. Robert Gluck is director of the University at Albany Electronic Music Studio. His music has been performed in Montreal, Austria, Berlin, Boston, Bard College, Dartmouth College, New York City and on the web.  Most recently Yvonne Hansbrough has presented concerts on baroque flute with the Foundation for Baroque Music festival, played principal flute with the Shaker Mountain Performing Arts Festival and taught at the Skidmore Flute Institute. Sten Yngvar Isachsen performed recently with the Musicians of Ma�alwyck, but also performs extensively as a solo artist and has given concerts at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Ithaca College, Eastman School of Music, the Hyde Museum and the College of St. Rose.

Max Lifchitz, who has been on the faculty since 1986 and has enjoyed an international career throughout Latin America, the U.S. and Europe. Recently released CD recordings featuring his performances of music by composers from the Americas have won accolades from the national press. James Morris has served as principal trumpet for the Lake George Opera, the Vermont Symphony, the Albany Symphony and Musica Sacra, a New York City based organization that performs at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Francis Pallozzi Wittmann has performed extensively with New York City Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, the Lake George Festival Opera and others.

The program will feature a variety of selections including from La Clemenza di Tito by Mozart; songs by Louis Spohr; Choros No.2 by Heitor Villa-Lobos and Telemann�s Fantasies for solo flute, among others.

The performance is Monday, November 3, 2003 at 8pm in the Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $7 for the general public and $3 for students.
