Be there for UAlbany vs. Sacred Heart this Saturday!

Great Danes football needs you! Don't let last week's loss take away your spirit! Be there to cheer on your team and also win some great prizes!58 Victor Camacho

Following last week's non-conference loss to Brown, the UAlbany football team will try to get back on the winning track against unbeaten Sacred Heart on Saturday, Sept. 27 at University Field.  Kickoff is 1:00 p.m. Last weekend's home debut drew 3,680 fans, the largest crowd for a home opener since 1999. At this weeks game you can enter Southwest Airlines' Kick Your Way to Spring Break, a contest for 2 round trip airline tickets.  Other prizes: $50 of podium money to 5 people, a $400 photo Sprint cell phone with service, a Sony PlayStation, t-shirts, gym memberships, restaurant gift certificates and more!

The Great Danes, who played an Ivy League school for the first time in football, looked out of sync offensively with four turnovers against Brown. However, UAlbany still has a dangerous rushing attack in tailback Gary Jones, who ran for a team-high 78 yards on 13 carries, and fullback Jon George. Free safety Lucas Kurtz and inside linebacker Victor Camacho led another solid effort by the defense. Kurtz and Camacho each recorded a career-high 10 tackles, as the Great Danes, for the most part, held Brown's high-octane offense in check.

Sacred Heart (3-0, NEC 2-0) has won its opening three games for the third time in the last four years following last Saturday's 27-24 win at Central Connecticut State.UAlbany Football Team  The Pioneers, who moved up to No. 2 in The Sports Network mid-major national poll, have produced victories in 32 of their last 36 games over the last three-plus seasons. All-NEC strong safety Brian Pawlowski, the school's all-time leader with 13 interceptions, is a member of the Northeast Conference's best secondary.

The Great Danes lead the series, 3-2, including last year's come-from-behind 38-17 win. Jones ran for three touchdowns, and plus scored twice in the fourth quarter. Sacred Heart was victorious in the previous two matchups. Justin Holtfreter passed for 296 yards in a 15-point triumph two years ago, before Marvin Royal's 17-yard dash was the difference in an overtime affair in 2000.
