Email from Chief Wiley - February 1

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

The UPD’s investigation is continuing into the events that took place just after 1:00 am Saturday morning on the #11 CDTA bus.  The Albany Police Department (APD) and the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) are offering significant assistance with this process and we thank them for their help.

We have used CDTA and other video to identify 34 persons of interest to the investigation.  Of these, we have identified 29, we have interviewed 16, and are interviewing or scheduling interviews with the remainder.  Two citizens also came forward overnight to provide information.

As we reported yesterday, review of the CDTA video revealed that the incident occurred on campus.  We have therefore assumed the lead investigative role. APD is continuing to assist us, and we appreciate that.

We continue to ask that if anyone has information about this incident they should:

  • Call University Police Department at 518-442-3131
  • Email University Police Department at [email protected]
  • Contact Albany Police Department at 518-462-8039.

I can assure you that the investigation is thorough and methodical.  We are committed to sharing information with the community on a regular basis, but we ask for your support both in bringing forward any information you have, and by giving us the time we need to talk with all those involved.

Finally, I want you to know that although there is no evidence of a continuing threat, UPD will continue to assign additional personnel to monitor campus safety.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Thank you.
