UAlbany Sexuality Month to Feature “PostSecret” Author and Multimedia Theater Performance

ALBANY, N.Y. (February 1, 2013) – The University at Albany will mark Sexuality Month in February with a presentation, reception and book-signing by “PostSecret” bestselling author Frank Warren, and two presentations of the multimedia “Women, Sex and Desire” by the Gesel Mason Performance Projects.

Warren will deliver a keynote presentation on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 8 p. m. in UAlbany’s Campus Center Ballroom, followed by a reception and book-signing. He is sole founder and curator of the PostSecret Project, a collection of more than 200,000 highly personal and artfully decorated postcards mailed anonymously from around the world, displaying what Warren calls “the soulful secrets we never voice.”

On Thursday, Feb. 21, at both 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, “Women, Sex and Desire” will incorporate dance, true-life stories and video imagery to investigate “how women navigate sex, desire, choice and perception.” The recently premiered work, according to its USA Projects website, “challenges stereotypes, assumptions and conventional wisdom along with reflecting the struggle, humor and pleasure we encounter as sexual beings.”

Mason and her company will conduct workshops with UAlbany classes and groups during their four-day stay on campus, Feb. 18-21.

UAlbany’s Sexuality Month, which runs from Feb. 4-28, features a “Sexuality Month Film Festival,” a Sexuality Week historical exhibit, and theater performances, workshops and lectures. Topics to be covered include sexual health, relationships and communication, sexual orientation and gender.

The full schedule of Sexuality Month events are sponsored by the University Counseling Center’s Middle Earth Peer Assistance Program and UAlbany’s Student Association. Admission to most events is free, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. Events are open to both the campus and community-at-large.
