UAlbany Student Safety Advisory

We were advised on Monday, February 28 by the Albany Police Department that a University at Albany student was robbed early Monday morning on February 28.

A male University at Albany student was the victim of an armed robbery by two unknown suspects. This occurred at 1:20 a.m. on Monday, February 28 on the 200 block of Quail Street in the City of Albany. The victim was approached by the two suspects with one of them brandishing a handgun. When asked for money, the victim indicated that he had none and after the suspects went through his pockets they ordered the victim to go to a market on the block and take money out of the ATM. The suspects accompanied the victim to the market where he withdrew a sum of money and gave it to the suspects. The suspects are reported by the victim to be black males in their 20s, five feet eight to five feet nine in height and weighing approximately 150-160 pounds.

The victim was unharmed. The Albany Police Department is actively investigating this incident.

We implore you to be vigilant about your personal safety, whether on or off campus. The following precautions are a reminder of some of the things you can do to be proactive concerning your safety:

Don't walk alone especially after dark travel with at least one other person or in groups

  Be aware of your surroundings

Avoid isolated areas and dark places - always walk in well-lit areas

Carry a cell phone with you in case of emergency. Dial (518) 442-3131 for University Police, or 911 if you are off-campus.
