The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures offers undergraduate degrees in French, Italian, Spanish and Russian (most also offer an honors component) and graduate degrees in French, Spanish and Russian. A minor in Portuguese is also offered. Additional languages available for study include Arabic, Dutch, classical Greek, German and Latin. Courses are also available in Chinese, Japanese and Korean in the Department of East Asian Studies and in Hebrew through the Judaic Studies Department. A language resources technology center, CLIC (www.albany.edu/CLIC/), is available to faculty and students in HU311.

Want to study a foreign language, but aren't enrolled in a degree program at the U? You can enroll "nondegree" through the Office of General Studies and take individual courses. High school seniors who excel in their coursework are eligible. For more information call General Studies at (518) 442-5140.

LLC seeks a qualified part-time INSTRUCTOR of GERMAN (up to 3 courses: Elementary I, Intermediate I, and possibly a grad-level Intro to Reading German) for Fall 2009 (note: this is not a permanent position, but an adjunct position hired semester to semester that pays per class). Applicants must have an advanced degree (MA or PhD) from an accredited institution, language teaching experience (preferably at the college level and in the language), and high competence in both German and English. The successful candidate will be the University in the High Schools liaison and be responsible for German program activities (such as German film festival, German Club, informal German conversation group). A recommended syllabus and text will be provided. Email CV with references and letter of interest (applicants must address in their letter their ability to work with and instruct a culturally diverse population) to Janna Harton (jharton@albany.edu). Review of applications begins 6/22/09 and ends when the position is filled. The University at Albany is an EEO/AA/IRCA/ADA employer.

The PhD Foreign Language Translation Exam will next be offered in November 2009 and April 2010. Interested students should contact LLC (ah610@albany.edu or 518-442-4222) to take the exam. Frequently asked questions about the exam and Guidelines for the exam are available at these links.
