Please join us for the Grand Opening Celebration of the UAlbany Emeritus Center, the new campus home of UAlbany Retired Faculty and Professionals.

The Grand Opening will begin with a ribbon cutting at 4:00 p.m. at the Emeritus Center.  Afterwards there will be a program in Room 433 in the same building.   Participating in the event will be the following speakers: John K. O'Connor, Vice-Chancellor and Secretary of the State University of New York; John Marino, Vice President for Professionals, United University Professions; Susan Herbst, UAlbany Officer in Charge; and Professor Emeritus William Reese, President of the Emeritus Center.

After these remarks, a tribute to the late Jarka Burian, distinguished scholar and Professor Emeritus, Department of Theatre, will be given by Patricia Snyder, Founder and Director of the NYS Theatre Institute.  Following this, there will be a stage reading of Anton Chekhov's
one-act play "Swan Song".  The afternoon will conclude with a champagne reception, toasting the establishment of the Center, and looking to its future.

As many of you know, the Center has been a long time in coming, its history dating back many years.  Through this time, emeriti and professionals have received an impressive number of benefits.  They have been recognized in the Charter of the University Senate; and both emeriti and professionals now serve regularly on the University Life Council of the Senate, and on its Benefits Subcommittee.  This means that we have gained a continuing voice in governance.  Our goal is to refine and develop these benefits, and to deepen our sense of community as members of the university.  The energies of our very active Board will program this goal into reality.
