Cruise the Hudson River on the Dutch Apple and meet President Kermit L. Hall in this casual setting May 13, 7-9 p.m. Enjoy the peaceful scenery and a hot-and-cold hors d’oeuvres buffet and cash bar. Contact the Alumni Association at (518) 442-3080 to reserve your spot.

Job Tools.Thinking of Changing Jobs?
Are you hunting for a new job or thinking of switching careers? If so, join fellow UAlbany alumni for “Career Transitions” May 26, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Alumni House. Hear experts from the New York State Department of Labor address developing a search strategy, job search tools and much more. Career counselors will be on hand to review resumes, and attendees will have an opportunity to network at a reception following the presentation. Alumni WeekendJoin Us for Alumni Weekend
Alumni Weekend is June 3-5 for the classes of 1930, 1935, 1940, 1945, 1950, 1955, 1960 and 1965. New York Yankees Tickets Available
The Metro NY Chapter of the Alumni Association is heading to The Bronx for a game against Pittsburgh June 16. Tickets are in Box 669 (upper deck) and are $10 each. There is a four-person limit on tickets, and they will go fast. Call Carmelina Morrison at (518) 442-3080 for more information.

A Chance to Dance, Mingle and Meet a Broadway Star!
Join the UAlbany Alumni Association at “Mamma Mia,” a musical based on Abba’s best-loved songs, July 9, 2005, at 2 p.m. After the show meet Carolee Carmelo, a 1983 UAlbany alumna who plays the show’s lead character, Donna Sheridan. Don’t miss this great show that will have you dancing in the aisle! Cost includes round trip bus from UAlbany and show ticket -- $125 for Alumni Association members, $135 for non-members. SPELLBOUND Volunteers Needed
SUNY Alumni of Atlanta will be volunteering to benefit adult literacy at Literacy Volunteers of America's annual Scrabble tournament, SPELLBOUND, at the Buckhead Sheraton June 9, 7-9 p.m. Volunteers are needed for registration, silent auction and scoring. Elias J. Corey, the 1990 recipient of the Nobel Prize in chemistry, was awarded an honorary doctor of science degree from UAlbany. Full Story >>

CNSE Partners with Mexican Research Laboratory
UAlbany’s College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) has signed an agreement to collaborate on research and educational programs with the Centro de Investigación en Materials Avanzados (CIMAV), one of Mexico’s leading national research laboratories. Full Story >>

Kate Winter of the Department of English is on a mission to bring back the work of Marietta Holley, the "female Mark Twain" of Jefferson County, N.Y., in the 1800s. Winter scripted, appeared in and completed work on a one-hour WPBS documentary about Holley. Full Story >>

SSW Students Part of an Engaged Global Community
Barbara Rio, School of Social Welfare assistant coordinator of Undergraduate Field Education, and her Social Work Practice I class recently traveled to New York City for the 22nd Annual Social Work Day at the United Nations, titled "Women's World: Global Challenges & Solutions." Speakers from around the world presented various topics, including women's health rights; trafficking of young children, women and men; and poverty.

Katharine Briar-Lawson, Professor Armando Meras, Blanca RamosPeruvian Professor Visits SSW to Further Collaborative Initiatives
The School of Social Welfare welcomed Professor Armando Meras from the Universidad Toribio de Mogrevejo del Peru. Professor Meras is the director of the Center of Poverty, Community Development, and Research at his home university. The participants met to explore collaborative research initiatives and to plan 2005 summer study tours in Peru.

Athletics

UAlbany Athletes Receive Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Awards
Seven UAlbany student-athletes have received the Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award. UAlbany athletes honored are Andy Allstadt (cross country), Roman Dubiel (baseball), John Eleby (lacrosse), Jill Friedman (golf), Ashley Heilmann (lacrosse), Alexis Johnson (field hockey) and Susan Spierre (volleyball). The Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award recognizes a combination of academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement. The winners were selected by athletic directors at SUNY’s Division I institutions.

Lacrosse Wins Third Consecutive America East Title
Chris Martocchia scored a career-high six goals and Merrick Thomson added five goals and one assist as UAlbany won its third consecutive America East Conference men's lacrosse championship with a 16-7 victory over Stony Brook May 7. The Great Danes, who are 10-5 overall, will make their third straight NCAA appearance. UAlbany travels to No. 6 Virginia on Saturday, May 14, at 8:00 p.m. Full Story >>
