Information for Faculty
Classroom Presentations
Many of the thousands of students who come to the Writing
Center each year hear about us through our classroom
presentations, and we'd like to invite you to schedule
one for your course. Presentations can be tailored to
fit your needs and the needs of your students. They
can be as short as ten minutes, providing information
about the Writing Center's location, hours, and philosophy,
or they can be extended to include demonstration tutorials
or workshops on revision led by a group of tutors.
If you are a faculty member at the University at Albany
and would like to schedule a presentation in your course,
please call us at 442-4061. As we have a limited number
of spaces in our presentation schedule, we ask that
you contact us no later than October 9 for presentations
during the fall semester.
Writing & Teaching Assistance for Faculty
The Writing Center assists both students and faculty
with academic writing across the disciplines. We provide
assistance for writers producing essays for graduate
school admissions, resumes, theses, dissertations and
creative writing. In addition to the presentations and
tutorials that comprise the bulk of our work, the Writing
Center staff offers expertise to faculty who would like
opportunities to talk about teaching writing courses
and/or designing writing assignments for classes.
If you would like to talk with Writing Center staff
about your own writing or how to better implement writing
instruction in the classes you teach, please contact
us at 518-442-4061.
As Writing Center tutors engage the whole writer and
his/her writing process (i.e., we do not proofread or
simply correct grammatical errors), we ask that all
faculty familiarize themselves and their students with
our process-centered philosophy
of writing before making an appointment or referring
their students to us.
