WGSS Statement in Response to the Majority Opinion Draft from the U.S. Supreme Court on ROE V. WADE
In response to the May 3rd, 2022 leaked draft majority opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court on Roe v. Wade, the Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at the University at Albany, State University of New York, affirms the right for women and all people with the capacity to become pregnant to have access to safe and legal abortions.

Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies MA Student Boluwatife Ajayi is representing the University at Albany in the 2022 Women's Empowerment Draft. UAlbany is honoring Susan S. McKinney in the draft. The 2022 Women's Empowerment Draft is a New York statewide initiative to honor empowering women during Women's History Month.
WGSS Graduate Student Karen Chang Selected for a Fellowship on Women & Public Policy
The 2022 Fellowship on Women & Public Policy program provides an intensive program to develop participants for careers in public policy. The award-winning program has been preparing women for public service leadership since the early 1980s through academic and experiential learning, supplemented by professional development workshops, mentoring and networking opportunities. Karen Chang, one of twelve participants selected, is pursuing a master’s degree in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies.
International Collaborative Project Directed by Dr. Nayla Luz Vacarezza (Visiting Scholar in 2021) is Selected for Funding
The National Agency for the Promotion of Research, Technological Development, and Innovation in Argentina, through its Scientific and Technological Research Fund, has awarded funding to the project “Cultural Production, Affect and Prefigurative Politics of the Movement for Abortion Rights in Latin America’s Southern Cone.” This project will be directed by Dr. Nayla Luz Vacarezza, who was a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies at UAlbany during 2021. Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Professor and Chair Barbara Sutton will speak on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Brooklyn College Women’s and Gender Studies Program talk, "Green Wave: Feminisms in the Global South." Dr. Sutton will speak on her topic, “Survival and Resistance: Testimonies from Women in Argentina.” Join the Zoom meeting.
