I am interested in understanding the effects of diabetes and/or its treatment on cognition. One of the most common complications of insulin treatment in diabetics is the propensity to suffer from repeated hypoglycemic episodes. In Ewan's lab my current project investigates the effects of recurrent hypoglycemia on medial prefrontal cortex mediated executive functions, such as mental flexibility, using a rodent analogue of human Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, the Set-Shift task. Additionally, I am also interested in investigating interactions of thyroid and insulin hormones on glucose metabolism and memory formation. Technically, I typically combine behavior and molecular approaches when answering my questions.
I love teaching and mentoring students as well;Justin Ramcharitar, Danielle Jettoo and Danielle Grand are some of the hardworking undegraduates in our lab who were/are being trained by me and help me with my projects.
I am an oenophile and I love birdwatching.
