Frequently Asked Upgrade Questions

Which version of WebCT will UAlbany be upgrading to?
The software will be upgraded from version WebCT Campus Edition 4.1 to Blackboard Learning System CE Enterprise License - Release 6 (CE 6).


What is the timeline for the upgrade project?
During the fall 2007 semester, several dozen courses will be used to pilot the new version. The remaining courses will be rolled out in version 6.0 at the beginning of the spring 2008 semester.

Will my CE 4.1 course be automatically restored in the CE 6 system?
No.  While the upgrade will not require instructors to re-build existing courses, the significant differences in the two platforms prevent CE 4.1 courses from fully being “restored” or “reset” in CE 6.  At the instructor’s request, files from 4.1 courses can be loaded into CE 6.  Faculty Technology Resources encourages instructors to submit their course request at least 6 -8 weeks in advance of the semester to allow ample time to review and make adjustments to their course.

Where can I get training on how to use CE 6?
Online and face-to-face training will be available.
