Need a place to save your documents? Use your S drive!

Need a place to store your files?

Creating your web page and need to publish the files?

You now have available to you your own space on the UNIX system called the S drive.

You can save or drag files to this space so that they are available the next time you access the S drive.

If you have created a UAlbany webpage, you can update your page by saving or dragging HTML files to the public_html folder on the S drive.

In the ITS user rooms and the ITS supported electronic classrooms, the S drive is automatically mapped for you when you log onto the computer.

See the links below for instructions for accessing the S drive from the user rooms, your office, dorm or home.

Using Your S Drive
You can use your S Drive to help clear up space.

You can save large attachments you may have received in emails to your S Drive, and then delete the original message, clearing up space on your email account.  To do this with Webmail:

  1. Open the email with the large attachment in Webmail.
  2. Click the "Download" link at the bottom of the email under "Attachments" for the attachment you wish to save.
  3. In the pop-up window, choose "Save to Disk".
  4. In the next pop-up window, Click My Computer, and then select netid on storage.albany.edu (where netid is your actual netid).
  5. Click "Save".  Your attachment is now saved in your S Drive.
  6. In the Webmail INBOX window, you may now delete the email message.
  7. You should also click "Purge" on the left side of your Webmail window to empty your trash.  This final step will clear up the space in your account.
You can use your S Drive to store your documents from any program.

To do this:

  1. In the program you are using, click File -> Save As.
  2. In the next pop-up window, Click My Computer, and then select netid on storage.albany.edu (where netid is your actual netid).
  3. Click "Save".  Your file is now saved in your S Drive.
