Threat Matrix

Picture of a bomb. Malware, Hackers, and Bots...Oh My!

"I've heard of hackers, spyware, and viruses, but I really don't understand the difference between them. And as far as I know, I have nothing of value on my computer that would interest a hacker. Besides, there are millions of computers on-line. How would they even find me?"

These are common assumptions. Unfortunately, they are all wrong. If we're going to successfully combat cyber threats, we have to understand the nature of the threat and which countermeasures are most effective. We need to recognize that we are targets as long as we're connected to the Internet; and we have to understand what motivates cyber criminals and the tools and strategies they use to cheat us.

In these pages  we'll explain why anti-virus software won't protect you from spyware, why hackers want your PC regardless of what's stored on it, and how they can pick you out from among the myriad devices connected to the 'Net in a matter of minutes. Network security threats are SERIOUS THREATS.  In the worst case scenario, you could become a victim of identify theft and incur a significant financial liability.

To get a better understanding of the individual threats you face, please click on the Security Threats link.

The time it takes to familiarize yourself with the threats and the right countermeasures is well worth it when you consider what's at risk.
