Wireless Internet Access

details_for_students_faculty_staff_large

What you need

You must be a member of the University Community to use the WiUAlbany wireless service available on campus. You will need your NetID, your UNIX cluster password and a computer with an 802.11 b/g wireless card that supports WPA.

NOTE: WiUAlbany is the University's wireless network.  The residential wireless internet service is available to students with Apogee accounts.

What you get

UA_WPA is the University's WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) offering that allows for authenticated, encrypted access into the University's ethernet network. WPA requires authentication to connect to the wireless network, but once connected no second authentications are required. WPA provides per-user session encryption, making it a secure wireless network.  WiUAlbany wireless service is available in the Libraries, the Campus Center, portions of the Podium, SEFCU Arena, areas of the East campus, and on the Downtown Campus.

Please Note: At this time, ITS does not offer support for hand held devices with WPA nor does using WPA on a computer that is not the property of the University at Albany obligate the University to provide technical support for the computer.

What happens next

Take your wireless enabled computer to any WiUAlbany location on campus, turn it on and start your Internet browser.

If you have already configured your computer for UA_WPA, you will be prompted for your NetID and UNIX password when your computer connects to the WPA network.
If you do not have WPA configured, you will land on the Welcome page for WiUAlbany and be instructed to configure UA_WPA.
