IRS Refund Notice

In this example, the hook is very straight forward--the promise of cash. Granted, it's not much cash, but who can resist getting money from the government?

The graphic above comes straight from the official IRS web site.

Tax Notification

Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
United States Department of the Treasury

Date:

01/28/2008

After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $134.80.

Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 6-9 days in order to process it.

A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons. For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.

To access the form for your tax refund, click here.

In this case, the above link goes to an interesting location:

http://adsl-76-239-48-106[dot]dsl[dot]sndg02[dot]sbcglobal[dot]net/index.html

This URL looks like it's being hosted off of a personal machine connected to the Internet via a home, DSL link. Maybe the IRS needs the money more than you do.

Regards,
Internal Revenue Service
