ITS has implemented an enhanced Password Set/Reset process and a "Forgot your password?" process. These self-service features will make it easier for students and employees to manage their passwords. Both processes are designed to maintain the security of personally identifiable information.
Enhanced Password Set/Reset Process
When students and employees set their password for the first time, they will be required to provide date of birth, PIN, and Social Security Number or Albany ID. They will also be required to select and answer two personal security questions. These security questions will be used for the new "Forgot your password?" process.Forgot Your Password Process
The new "Forgot your password?" feature will allow students and employees to reset their password(s) without the use of the PIN. Besides requiring NetID and Social Security Number or Albany ID, the individual will be challenged to answer the two security questions they established in their account. Whenever a password is set or reset, a confirming email is sent to the person's UAlbany email address.Optional Security Preference
An optional security checkbox is provided that allows students and employees to indicate that their PIN can only be retrieved by an in-person visit to the ITS HelpDesk. When this option is selected, the PIN can never be obtained over the phone.Additional Menu Selections in MyUAlbany
Options are available in MyUAlbany to allow students and employees to view and/or change their security questions as well as to select or deselect the Optional Security Preference option. MyUAlbany will also display the date/time that the password was last reset.Current Students and Employees Who Have Set Their Passwords
Within MyUAlbany, select 'My Security Questions' under the My Personal Portfolio section. You can then establish or revise your security questions. Should you need to reset your password in the future, you can use the "Forgot your password?" process.
