Recommendation - Windows Vista and MS Office 2007

ITS Recommendation for Windows Vista

With the upcoming release of Microsoft's Vista operating system, ITS recommends our customers continue using Windows XP.  ITS does not recommend installing Microsoft Vista or purchasing a new computer pre-loaded with any version of Vista until late fall 2007, as we will not be in a position to provide adequate support until then. This time enables ITS to test the different versions of Vista for compatibility within the University's network environment and then make appropriate recommendations to the campus community.  It also allows time for the first set of bug fixes to be released by Microsoft, and for upgrades of applications such as Symantec Antivirus and Cisco VPN, to be made available to the campus.

ITS Recommendation for MS Office 2007

With the upcoming release of MS Office 2007, ITS recommends our customers continue using Office 2003. ITS does not recommend installing or purchasing a new computer pre-loaded with Office 2007 until late fall, as we will not be in a position to provide adequate support until then.  Office 2007 is designed differently and looks unlike previous versions, so we want to avoid problems for customers wherever possible.  Additionally, there have been reports that Office 2007 is not compatible with Access 97, which would pose problems for those using older databases.
