Network Connection Standards

newNetConnectIcon_large
Security begins before you connect to the network.

Who is expected to follow the standards?
All persons connecting to the University at Albany's network, or using devices that are already connected to University's network. This includes faculty, staff, VPN users, non-affiliates, and business or research partners, and as well as all students (graduate, undergraduate, commuting, and residential).

What are the Network Connection Standards?

Why are these standards needed?
To ensure the information integrity and security of the University at Albany computer network. Also to reduce the number of infected / compromised computer systems within the university network. Reducing these infections help to allow for academic use of the Internet through the university's network.

How are these standards enforced?
Enforcement varies with the type of connection you are using. Faculty and Staff may have their Internet disconnected until such time as their computer is cleaned. Students may be temporarily suspended from having Internet access, if found to be compromised. Suspended students may need to pay a fee, in accordance with current University policies.
