ITS Participates in
the 26th GHI Workforce Team Challenge:
May 18, 2006

Inspired by the Great Danes NCAA Basketball Tournament effort, the University at Albany team turned in noteworthy individual and team performances in the 2006 GHI Workforce Team Challenge 3.5 mile race on May 18.
Over 4000 walkers, joggers and runners representing area organizations participated in this year's GHI Workforce Team Challenge. The UAlbany team at nearly 40 participants, was the largest in recent history. There was a strong contingent from ITS at just over a dozen, comprising about one-third of the team.
Dr. Dana Peterson (School of Criminal Justice) was the star performer for the squad, crossing the finish line as the fastest female runner over the 3.5 mile course with a time of 21:40. In addition to Professor Peterson, UA placed two other women runners in the top 15. Renee Lucier-DeCelle (Office of International Education) finished 7th at 23:21 and Mary-Frances Monroe (UA Athletics/Womens Soccer) 13th with a time of 23:56.
The performances of Peterson and Lucier-DeCelle combined with strong runs by Tim Hoff (School of Public Health) at 20:54 and R.J. Bevers (UA Athletics/Mens Soccer) with a time of 22:0, earning UAlbany second place out of 184 teams competing in the coed division. The UA women's team was scored 15th out of 128 and the men's team was 98th out of 213.
36 participants represented UAlbany, with t-shirts emblazoned with the university logo and the motto “Why not us?” Most importantly a great time was had by all (even though rain dampened the post-race festivities).
