Goal

Our Goal is to provide each end-user with the necessary skills and knowledge to integrate PeopleSoft into their daily tasks and therefore maximize system utilization.

The Role of Training in the IAS Project

The University at Albany recognizes the value of training and its impact on the success of the IAS Project implementation. End-user training plays a primary role in each phase of implementation. The training process involves the following stages:
  • Assessment of Training Needs
  • Development of Training Materials and Activities
  • Scheduling and Delivery of Training
  • Follow-up and Support
Training is most effective if used immediately. Accordingly, the IAS Training Team promotes a "Just-in-Time" training philosophy. Training takes place just before a module goes "live". All employees affected by a specific module are scheduled for training just prior to the targeted implementation date.

University Business Systems has a spacious training facility in its new location at the Management Services Center equipped with eighteen computers. Liz Medvetz and Lisa Maxwell in the UBS training room After completion of the initial training, the Training Team may conduct follow up sessions with the end-users as required.

The training takes place in small groups and one-on-one sessions when necessary. The classes are designed with a mixture of lecture and hands-on activities to maximize learning for students with a variety of learning styles. The classroom atmosphere is relaxed to encourage questions and discussion. The curriculum is broken down into several short, task-based sessions. Users attend the sessions that directly relate to their job duties, minimizing time spent away from work in training. As additional modules become active, the training process will continue, and employees will attend additional sessions "Just-in-Time" as each new module goes live.

Because the primary goal of training is to provide every end-user with the necessary skills and knowledge to integrate PeopleSoft into their daily work tasks, the Training Team is available as each module goes on-line to guide users as they begin to implement their training.
