UNIX Systems Administrator

The ITS/Systems Management and Operations (ITS/SMO) is seeking a system administrator to join the UNIX Support group.   Duties include the Linux/Solaris systems administration of state of the art hardware and software used by academic and administrative end users.  Responsibilities include the configuration and installation of Linux/Solaris servers and workstations, installation and upgrades of operating systems and layered commercial and open source software (e.g. WebCT, OSP e-portfolio, CMU NetReg), monitoring of system security, and providing technical support and consultation to customers.  Systems supported by the UNIX Support group include a UNIX academic compute cluster running commercial and open source application software, sendmail, Apache web server, DHCP, LDAP, DNS, WebCT, PeopleSoft IAS, and Aleph Library Management System.  A Bachelor’s degree preferably in Computer Science or related technical field is required and the degree must be from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.  Applicants must demonstrate in their application their ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
